I agree with the sentiment of the article, but I really think more research should be done to discover what serves the HN community best in this scenario. It’s currently has a very functional UX design and I wouldn’t doubt that it is this way for a reason, whether it be accessibility, maintainability or cost. The dense layout is potentially much more desirable for people who visit multiple times a day and are quickly scanning for new articles (think reddit).

In the meantime, I like the Georgify Chrome Extension which cleans up the interface and makes the text a bit more legible.
