Friday Links: Product Edition

Another week, another batch of cool new products on the interwebs. Give them a try — some might even help you plan for the weekend.
- An exciting collaborative intersection of technology and the physical world, Project Sidewalk is aiming to provide accurate maps of accessibility issues in Washington DC. “this is a great idea and … i’m proud of my alma mater” (via Kevin Barrett)
- We have lots of thoughts about building versus buying here at Postlight. Apparently the folks at Uber engineering do too, because instead of buying a chat tool, they went ahead and built their own (on top of open source Mattermost). Over-engineering? Solving hard problems at scale? Who can truly say? (via Cody Cowan and Jeremy Mack)
- One of our favorite weather apps, Carrot, added some new features and personality. Apparently the “customization goes much deeper than you’d expect,” which I guess is to say that it goes deep at all, because weather apps and customization aren’t a typical combo. (via Chris LoSacco and Jeremy Mack)
- If you happen to be in a situation where divorce-tech is something you think about, check out Fayr. We have lots of questions (not least about the choice of name and spelling), but it does seem to be solving a problem that lots of families face, which is good!
- Finally, because it wouldn’t be a week if a design/prototype tool didn’t come out with some new exciting feature, Figma is out with a 2.0 that adds prototyping and developer handoff. This looks “……………….impressive,” fwiw. (via Neil Renicker)
