Hi Mindi — I’m a believer in the 10,000 hour rule in terms of its applicability to mastery, particularly in the arts. For instance, Malcolm uses The Beatles as an example of the rule and how their time spent playing long gigs in Germany led to their stage presence etc. To that extent, there are no shortcuts and no-one can pay-forward stage presence.
To your point, though, there are shortcuts you can bestow upon people in your own network that may help them get ahead. It’s fascinating to me how few people actually take advantage of introductions or offers to help. I’ve provided plenty in my day, and the value was roughly even to both parties, but one or both sides didn’t follow up and take full advantage.
