We are all victims of this. We love our “Get out of Jail Free” card in our phones. No matter how much we try, our lives somehow end up remaining unchanged after the short period of this realization of our addiction. I am a victim. I am being victimized right now as I sit here at Red Robin writing this comment.

David Foster Wallace started his speech “This is Water” by saying, “There are these two young fish swimming along, and they happen to meet an older fish swimming the other way, who nods at them and says, ‘Morning, boys, how’s the water?’ And the two young fish swim on for a bit, and then eventually one of them looks over at the other and goes, ‘What the hell is water?’”

This parable shows how we don’t pay attention to the seemingly obvious reality we live in. A reality where we are enthralled and hypnotized by our phones and our media. I love this article because you opened the curtain to the obvious. I know that sounds strange, because it seems so simple, but it could not be more difficult. Great job, buddy.
