It’s Time To Think Beyond Capitalism
What would a post-capitalist society look like — one where people trumped profit and mindless growth was replaced with a sustained strategy that put the collective good over the desires of the few?
I am in favor of a reappropriation of the idea of profit. Not in terms of money, but in terms of a reimagined human capital. The notion of profit can just as easily be seen as happiness, wellbeing, joy, and public good. Right? That is a profit that feeds the soul, and fulfills a different motive — one of class consciousness and the needs of the many. This is rooted in Marx’s humanism and the unalienated human reunited with meaning in the larger of contexts of their lives.
A reimagined human capital offers us an opportunity to see beyond the currency of gain and inequality. It reframes capital and directs it toward the social.
