No, it’s not a joke. Coinomi first introduced support for dApps and tokens back in 2016. All tokens now have their own coin-like entry and contribute to the total balance in the Overview screen.

Exchanging the Tokens
All newly-added tokens that are also supported by ShapeShift, our integrated exchange service provider, are now available for instant trading from within your Coinomi Wallet!
You can trade any of the supported coins for other coins, coins for tokens, tokens for coins and tokens for other tokens. The trading combinations are simply endless with Coinomi.
For instance you could trade a coin such as LBRY Credits for a token like Golem (GNT):

Adding your favorite tokens and dApps
To add your favorite token or dApp you need to open your Ethereum wallet and scroll all the way to the right to the dApps screen.
You can then chose your favorite token from the list of the verified tokens.
Hint: Type in “ERC20” to filter-out the non-ERC20 tokens.
Selecting the token of your choice will take you to the token’s wallet. You will notice a plus sign on the top of the screen. Hit the plus sign to add it to your favorites and then go back to the Overview screen. The token now has its own coin-like entry and can be accessed directly from the main screen. Voila!
