Chapter 2

The way people consume news has drastically changed. In 1996 two percent of people reported that they got their news from the internet. in 2010 that number jumped 45% to 47$. This increase in digital news exposure is due to the explosion in the amounts of electronic devices such as cell phones and tablets.

News consumers are all placed into one of four different segments. These four segments are Traditionalists, Integrators, Net-newsers, and the disengaged. Traditionalist have an average age of 52 and make up 46 percent of the population. Integrators use print and digital platforms to get there news and make up 23 percent of the population. Net-newsers only use digital and make up 13 percent of the population. Last there is those who do not care about the news at all making up 14 percent of the population.

Many mediums have taken to the process of synchronized media. This means that they do both print and internet stories to try to reach all audiences. these types of media coverage's for the most part succeed at using video and photo integration in their news stories.

More and more jobs are opening up in mediums that utilize the use of digital media because they continue to grow in popularity. This means that it is becoming harder to find jobs in the tradition print only news mediums.

This shows me that in this day and age, to find a job in this field it would benefit me to become skilled in both the art of digital and print communication. If I become talented to both I would be an asset to employers.
