Nike Ad
As everyone has probably heard of and seen the new Nike ad with Colin Kaepernick and the attention it has got. The ad says “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything.” This is a huge statement by Nike they are trying to make as you can take this message multiple ways but since they added Colin Kaepernick it has gotten a lot of support but also a lot of criticism. In case you don’t know, Colin Kaepernick is a professional football player and he was trying to make a stand in what he believes in and he would kneel down on the ground during the National Anthem in a silent protest against police brutality against African American citizens and unfair civil rights.
As much as the statement is true just because they added him to it that’s why it is receiving so much attention. Thinking about it as a dream, if you believe in something and that is your dream then obviously you will give up everything to accomplish it. But when they added Colin to it, people began to think of what he believes in and people always refer back to him not standing for the flag and National Anthem. As he has stated in interviews and statements he is not doing this act in regards to dishonoring the flag or the soldiers that have served for our country but he is doing in regards of what they serve and protect us for in our freedom. He is using his freedom of speech, which is his constitutional right, to demonstrate his act of bringing attention and notice to the wrongful doing of police brutality to African Americans and the social injustice they receive. As having family that has served in the military, I do not find this offensive in any way that people that criticize it do. He is doing it the right way as for following rules and laws and he is doing it in a way that will get a lot of attention so maybe the points he is trying to get across will get looked at in a serious manner.
