One is that, relatve to the ill-conceived “euphoria” of the 1990s, the nation-state and nationalism seem stronger than ever. The European Project has crashed on its shoals and Trumpism revels in it. Secession has won the day in Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, and the USSR and is at work on Spain…
It’s really hard to calculate that because its nigh impossible to allocate the Senate seats in states with significant splits. Many gerrymandered House seats cut across regional borders, for obvious reasons.
You’re conflating what he promised on the campaign trail (which I argue helped him win the election) with what he’s done policy-wise in office (which I predict is eroding his support with these swing constituencies.) Thus far he hasn’t delivered on these “populist” promises he campaigned on, save for the TPP/steel tariffs, governing instead in the laissez faire tradition of the party establishment.
