Don’t Name Your Company “Mary’s”
Cannabis Branding and Marketing Tips

So you want to start a canna-company? Wether that be extracts, flower, edibles, or the like you need an original and creative brand name. Since the market is growing so quickly – customers and wholesalers can easily forget your product or confuse it with a competitor’s. Your packaging and product are of equal importance – but a unique brand name will ensure they remember you and buy again.
Through my experience working at a dispensary and operating an edible company I’ve met many “Ganja-preneurs”. I swear that it seems half of the companies out there are named “Mary’s this” or “Mary’s that” or “Mary Jane’s”. I’m sorry – but in the new age of Cannabis marketing this just isn’t going to cut it. It took me days to track down a business’s e-mail address because there was three other products with the same name in America. Even if your name is actually Mary I suggest going for something more unique and memorable. If you don’t believe me just search the word Mary’s on Instagram or Google and see how many marijuana brands there are. Countless. People don’t have the time to sift through logos and names to find you. Make sure that you stand out.
Additional Tips: If you can – make all of your social media handles (@name) the same. This allows fans to easily find and follow you on a variety of platforms.
Emphasize what makes your company different. Is your product stronger, clearer, healthier than your competitors? Let these attributes shine through your brand and product names.
P.S. I believe you can make any business successful by providing value and solving problems – regardless of the name. However this was just some advice to aspiring cannabis entrepreneurs.
