Securing Dallas-Fort Worth’s place in the music map are natives Trapboy Freddy and Go Yayo with their critically acclaimed individual work and recently, with Trap & Yayo — their take on a full-length collaborative mix. The self-titled project, released last July 20, is not their first time to work together — Trapboy Freddy did a verse on Go Yayo’s “Gotta Know That”, and Yayo on Trap’s “6 Pick”– and if the fans have it their way, shouldn’t be the last.

Mixtape Cover of “Trap & Yayo”

Produced by the kinds of Shun On Da Beat and GamerBoy, Trap & Yayo features 10 high-energy tracks depicting a rapper’s young time in DFW. Filled with allusions to performing in strip clubs, winning in street brawls, and just making a ton of money, T&Y is an unapologetic account of a couple hustlers having fun reaping fame and coin, as best exemplified in club banger “Power” (Come on my block n*gga, you getting wet!). In June-produced “Look at Me”, both don’t shy away from luxury and drop heavy green just because they can.

Look at me, I got diamonds on me VVS
In designer head to toe, I walked in Neimans, I just blew a check
Watchin’ who I serve, these pussy police wanna leave me stretched
HoodFame seein’ me, we goin’ global, n*gga fuck your set

Everybody knows Houston to be the hip-hop capital of Texas, but any self-respecting hip-hop fan knows not to sleep on the neighboring Dallas-Fort Worth rap scene. DFW has seen quite a number of its artists enjoy mainstream success, and continue to grow rappers like Trap and Yayo that continue to elevate the local hip-hop culture of the metroplex.
