Blue has a huge variety of shades: light and dark, warm and cold. Today we will talk about the luxurious and noble dark-blue range: the mysterious and intriguing shades of the night and the deep sea.

If you wish to use a rich blue color in the interior, you need to be careful. Blue tones love the sun and natural light. Therefore, you can safely use it in rooms whose windows face south, southeast or southwest. Shady rooms, not illuminated by direct sunlight and facing north, blue color can make the cold and gloomy.

If you decided to use deep blue shades in the decoration of the walls, then it should be done, oddly enough, in small rooms. Borders visually dissolve, as if in a night haze, and the room will look chamber and cozy. This method is suitable for offices, small bedrooms, libraries.

Do not use dark blue in large quantities in spacious rooms — you can create a depressing and gloomy atmosphere. Give up the dark tones in favor of sky-blue, light turquoise, the color of lavender. Bright saturated shades of blue are suitable in this case for contrasting accents: puffs, armchairs, curtains, pillows, paintings.

Using the dark blue scale in the design of the apartment, pay special attention to the correct artificial lighting. Create a comfortable diffused light by combining a ceiling chandelier or spotlights with floor lamps and sconces. Neutralize the cold blue with the warm light of the table lamps and candles.

Where to use the blue color?

You can use blue in any room of your interior:

- the living room will make an attractive and stylish blue sofa, armchairs, decor, paintings;

- dark blue kitchen in combination with snow-white decoration and decor — an excellent alternative to a more contrasting black kitchen;

- blue — a beautiful color for the bedroom, like no other will present a relaxed, peaceful atmosphere, which has a comfortable rest and sleep;

- blue is perfect for kid’s room, especially if you play the sea theme or combine warm tones of blue with bright cheerful contrasts;

- and of course, blue, personifying the sea element, is the ideal color for the bathroom.

With what to combine a blue color in an interior?

  1. The classic combination of blue and white creates a feeling of freshness and lightness. White color perfectly shades absolutely any blue shades: from cobalt and indigo to azure blue and turquoise. This combination is reflected in the marine theme, suitable for the bathroom, children’s or the interior of a summer country house.

2. Absolutely admirable looks blue in combination with snow-white in any prints and patterns: gzhel, seam stripe, rhombuses and zigzags in the Art Deco style, provincial French prints, blue and white painting on ceramics, popular in many countries of the world — from China to Portugal.

3. Warm sand and beige shades perfectly complement the blue, making it warmer.

4. Blue color perfectly complement the shades of yellow and orange. In this case, warm colors should be combined with warm colors. And cold — with cold. This contrasting combination creates an extraordinary interior in the style of eclecticism.

5. Fans of bold color solutions can combine blue with red, pink, fuchsia color. These colors enhance the saturation of blue. This contrasting combination will suit creative people who are not afraid of experimentation.

6. Perfectly combines blue with all shades of brown.

7. Blue, as a truly natural color (the color of the sky, the sea and wild flowers), is admirably combined with a tree. A noble and elegant interior creates a combination of blue and wood with rich shades: dark walnut, cherry, chestnut, teak, mahogany, dark oak.

8. Expensive and stylish looks on the background of blue tones of gold and silver decor, creating a refined atmosphere in the Art Deco style.

9. Interesting dynamic combinations create a combination of various shades of blue gamma: saturated blue with blue, azure, turquoise, purple, and also with shades of gray.

I hope these examples will help you to use the blue color in the interior of your apartment of house. Do not be afraid of bright colors — they make our life more interesting and diverse!
