Of course those suffering in Houston want empathy. And lots of it. Empathy may be the most many of us have to offer, in addition to whatever donations we can afford. Our countrymen also want temporary food, shelter, and the chance to rebuild their lives. They’ll get it, too. This is America. In times of terrible crisis, we show up for each other as neighbors with a dry blanket, a Fema representative with a check, or a friend with a large enough shoulder for the tears. You need to wake up and smell the humanity.
