Simple Advice for Fellow Onions

I’m not the person my grade school teachers said I would be.

I’m not the hot mess I was a decade ago.

I’m not the traditional Midwestern girl people expect.

I’m not one who has been the same my entire life.

I’m an onion.

I am unique. I’m ever-changing. I’m strange. I’m smart. I’m fun. I’m creative. And I am going places I never, ever thought possible.

People will try to tell you who you are and who you will become your whole life. Some of them mean well, but most of them don’t.

Here’s a workaround:

  1. Get to know God
  2. Find your identity in Him
  3. Open your eyes and heart to the impossible
  4. Awaken your dreams
  5. Go hard after those dreams

The result? If you know who you are and who you were destined to become, you stop being held to the standards and opinions of others.

You want to be extraordinary? Go your own way.

Be bold. Be courageous. Remember who you serve.
