Agree entirely. At the risk of sounding clichéd, however, maybe it’s a good idea not to embrace ‘getting picked’, whether in writing or other things, as the ultimate satisfaction. The buzz of any specific achievement generally wears off fast, and away we go hounding after yet another pick. Maybe it’s better to take joy in the process that gets you there. Or is that just solace for new and mid-list novelists trying to get published in the current market? I don’t think so.
