I don’t mentally file taxes in with surcharges, I guess I just assume that 15% on top of the price is going to happen. It actually really throws me off when I go somewhere like Florida with no sales tax.

But I really really do hate surcharges. Like, some grocery stores started charging for plastic bags to “encourage environmentalism”, but the reality is that they used to have to include the cost of the plastic bags in their products as just a cost of doing business and now they don’t. They’re probably making money off of plastic bags. That drives me nuts. It’s always sold as allowing the customer to make a choice, but inevitably the overall cost to the consumer goes up.
