Recently I switched jobs and my previous job’s pension plan sent me mail to tell me I have to move my money. So now I’m looking to move it into the Canadian version of the 401k, an RRSP. The point is, I was getting automatic deductions from my paycheque so I never saw the money and the employer matches up to a certain percentage so when I saw how much was in there after only a year I was amazed. I’m fine at saving on my own, but these automatic deductions are magic. If you have room in your budget for even 5% off of each paycheque, it adds up! I only earned about 0.2% interest because of all the freakin’ fees, but with an RRSP hopefully I can improve on that and at least keep up with inflation.
