Should Protestants say 'RIP’?

The Orange Order has taken the advice of Wallace Thompson, an evangelical creationist, and suggested Protestants should not use the term RIP, due to its apparently papish origins.

Once I got through the absurdity and unintended comedy of beliefs from another century, it began to make me quite angry.

How dare they? It’s inappropriate to tell people what they should do, especially in these circumstances. What they mean when they say RIP is up to them, but it shows respect for the deceased and sympathy for their loved ones.

The argument that it’s a secret Catholic prayer is absurd. An omniscient god would know perfectly what a person is thinking when they say “RIP”. A god that would seize upon it as heresy is one lumpen idiot. It’s curious how stupid the Protestant god actually is, given how its followers treat it.

If RIP isn't being spoken as a prayer but an idiom, then the speaker need not fear hellfire unless:

1) This god is omniscient but very stupid or,
2) This god is not omniscient and easily fooled.

In the painful time of death and grief, anyone thinking more about damnation than respect and sympathy should re-evaluate their humanity.
