There is some truth to your first point, but it depends. If you’re still in the product conceptualisation stages, then yeah, focusing on designing and building a robust, consistent, scalable system would be a poor decision. Drawing detailed pictures would be an even worse decision though.

When working with designers who exclusively draw pictures, I try to discourage them from being fussy about pixels because the majority of what they produce will be discarded and rebuilt. I try to get them to focus on either producing assets, exploratory/creative work…
Not sure I agree with your sentiment here. Despite the poor quality of our tools, we as a community have managed to pump out some great quality work. Good craftspeople never blame their tools. I don’t think this lets design tools off the hook at all though.
