Discover fun and engaging art-making activities for all ages to enjoy without leaving home! This is the 3rd of our 3-part Studio at Home Web Series, created in collaboration with artists Richard “Duarte” Brown and recorded by Donte Woods-Spikes. Each video will be released throughout the summer of 2023. We hope you have a great time learning, watching, and making art with your family alongside Duarte.

A full set of written instructions and suggested supplies are listed below.

Supplies needed

  • Paper Bags
  • Tape
  • Glue Stick
  • Decorations: stickers, buttons, cut out pictures

Instructions

To get started on your custom paper bag, grab your paper bag and place it on a flat surface. Gently fold the bottom part down so that it is split into two equal halves. This should create two flaps on the sides of the bottom part of the bag. If you need to use multiple bags, repeat this process for each one.

Now, with a glue stick adhere the flaps together. Then, unroll a length of duct tape and secure one of the outer edges of one of the end flaps.

Repeat this process for the other end flap, leaving a small space in between the two tape pieces.

Lastly, decorate the bag as desired! This can include drawing, stickers, photos and notes to make your own.

Have fun and enjoy your new journal!
