Born into the esteemed lineage of filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, Pooja is an integral part of the Bhatt family, synonymous with the Bollywood film production legacy.
Early Life and Education
Pooja Bhatt entered this world on 24 February 1972 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The eldest child of Mahesh Bhatt and Kiran Bhatt, she embraces a diverse heritage with a Gujarati Muslim father and a mother of English, Scottish, Armenian, and Burmese descent. Her journey includes a younger brother, Rahul Bhatt, a fitness trainer and actor, two half-sisters, Shaheen Bhatt and Alia Bhatt, both actresses, and a stepmother, Soni Razdan, an actress and director. Notably, she shares cousin ties with the popular Bollywood actor, Emraan Hashmi.
Her educational voyage commenced at A F Petit Girls High School in Mumbai. Despite early aspirations of becoming an astronaut, Pooja’s passion shifted towards acting and filmmaking. Her foray into the limelight began as a child model, featuring in a TV advertisement for Pears Soap at the tender age of 10.

Pooja Bhatt stepped onto the acting stage at 17 in 1989 with “Daddy,” a TV film directed by her father Mahesh Bhatt. The storyline revolved around the complex relationship between an alcoholic father and his daughter, portrayed by Pooja. Her poignant performance earned acclaim, securing her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.
The silver screen welcomed Pooja with the romantic comedy “Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin” (1991), a remake of Hollywood’s classic “It Happened One Night” (1934). This marked her ascent to stardom, bagging a Filmfare nomination for Best Actress. The ‘90s saw Pooja Bhatt in various successful films, collaborating with industry stalwarts like Sanjay Dutt, Shah Rukh Khan, Sunny Deol, Ajay Devgn, and others across diverse genres and languages.
Venturing into production, Pooja took the reins of films like “Tamanna” and “Dushman,” adding another layer to her creative repertoire. Her directorial debut, “Paap” (2004), starring John Abraham, displayed her versatility.
