ICI Director Position Draws Interest

The most senior position at the ICI is opening up, and is already attracting applications.

Our director, Bill Kiernan, will be stepping down from the role to focus on his position as dean of UMass Boston’s School for Global Inclusion and Social Development (SGISD), the graduate school that houses the ICI. The search committee is accepting applications for the director position through October 31.

“I’m delighted to be heading up this hiring committee,” said Professor Laura Bozeman, who runs the Vision Studies Program at SGISD. “We’re happy that we’ll still have Dean Kiernan’s leadership of our school, while at the same time bringing in someone new to lead the ICI into the future.”

The search committee’s process will involve several rounds of interviews, as well as presentations by the finalists to ICI staff and other members of the UMass Boston community.

“We’re looking for someone who shares our passion for inclusion, who will bring a fresh perspective and a strong background in creating change,” said Dean Kiernan. “We’re open to the various forms that background might take.”

For example, candidates might have expertise in gerontology, veterans’ services, mental health, or early childhood or inclusive education. Those all overlap with the ICI’s mission around empowerment of people with disabilities. Candidates with a more focused background in disability are also welcome.

Applications are due by October 31. If you would like to refer a candidate, please send them to our website to learn more.
