The Xiaomi Mijia Smart Shoes are fashionable men sneakers. Gearbest gave us the opportunity to test the Mi Shoes this summer. How do they fit and do we like it as a wearable?

Looks and Style

First of all, don’t confuse these shoes with the Smart Sneakers with built-in Xiaomi Chips. The Xiaomi Mijia has more of a basketball sneaker feel. With the high supportive heel cap and topline cuff, and a wide absorbing sole.

Although we thought sneaker lovers would like these shoes we asked a couple of addicts their opinion, just to be sure:

“Nice design”
“A bit like a Jordan shoe”
“Cool and simple design”
“A bitt dull, can use more outgoing collars”
“Best shoes for skating! great grip on the board”

Size, Fit and Comfort

According to my knowledge the shoe fits fine, we got an EU size 44. Maybe if you are always in between 2 sizes, it is better to choose the bigger size.

Our Experience

At the first run I got a blister in about 3 km, but that happens to me almost everytime I get new shoes. The days before I used them like sneakers which gave no trouble at all.

For running shoes they got a bit stiff backstay, which I did not like while running. But I was positively surprised by the lace guard. You can tie the shoelaces quickly, and in this manner, your feet are not able to move even a little. Xiaomi calls this lace guard the fishbone.

The MI Shoe is not waterproof, but instead, provides lots of breath for your feet. Although we tested them during the summer, we think you will not get cold feet in the sneakers so that you can use them every season. However, like all sneakers don not use them when it’s pouring rain. If you want to keep dry feet when it rains? Then try boots 😉 Luckily when you get surprised with a big shower, the chip won’t damage. But better not sink the shoes, the chip just got a waterproof IP67* mark.

Eventually, I will not use them as running shoes again. But I’ll use them as Sneakers for sure!

The Smart Part

To use the most intressting features of the smart footwear you have to set up the included chip.

Install the Chip

First, you need to insert the battery as shown on the image. Then you need to install the app with the QR code. You can find the code in the guideline or just search for the “Mi Fit App” in the play or Apple store.

You can connect the shoes easily with your phone by shaking the chip! You can find the instructions in the Chinese user manual 😉 When installing the chip, you need to peel the inner sole out of the shoe (it does not matter, left and right will work). Remove the pepper foam filling and put the chip in the bottom. Put everything back, and you are ready!

How Smart are the Sneakers?

The Xiaomi Mi Shoes smart part works with a module. The module is the chip you just inserted in your shoe. It collects all kind of data on your activities like running, climbing, cycling, and walking. You can examine the data on your phone. It will register the following data: KCal(calories burned), Speed, Distance.

The data is pretty accurate. On a 5km walk, the difference between GPS (Used a Polar V800) and the shoes is 4,92KM (for shoe) and 4,86KM (GPS). That’s pretty impressive correct seeing other ‘wearables’ issues problems. See the figures below what data and sensors are collecting the information.

Design and Fabric

The shoes are lightweight with only 0,28 kg for a single shoe. Which is perfect when using them as gym shoes. Besides from the smart features, the Mijia shoes are fine for in the gym. Anti-skid features, air cushions, arched soles, and removable anti-bacterial two-layer insoles give a lot of comforts. Your ankles and heel will be stabilized with a soft velvet composite SBR (high-elastic styrene-butadiene rubber) which increases the comfort considerably. The high heel also prevents them from slipping off.

One major positive part for using smart wearables is the increased motivation to get moving. If you combine the shoes with other Xiaomi wearables, like the Weight Scale or the Mi Band you will get a big help in living a more healthier and life.

Conclusion

Overall we are quite positive about these shoes, but mostly when you use them as sneakers. The app does not offer incredible smart features. But it is by far the smartest shoes we know. These intelligent shoe’s (combined with app) are a motivator and helps you become more fit, for sure!
