2022 USA East Coast road trip Day 10

Absolutely shattered this morning! Terrible sleep as the room was extremely stuffy so we woke up boiling.

We quickly got ready and headed out for breakfast. We went just down the road to Denny’s. Again, Tina got compliments on her accent by the waitress 😂

Helen had eggs benedict and Tina had an egg, sausage and cheese on toast (otherwise known as The Grand Slammer — always a winner)

After breakfast we drove into Delaware.

Welcome to Delaware Bitches 😂 😂 😂

It’s dull this morning but we went a drive through the state park to see the lovely coastal beaches in Cape May.

Even though the sun isn’t shining, the views were still gorgeous. And we had the beach to ourselves.

We took a walk down to the ocean. Which was super choppy but very calming to watch and listen to.

Just as we got back to the car the rain came lashing down!

So it was a rainy drive for a bit! We actually thought there might be a hurricane on the way as although it was raining it was humid and warm outside. These safety shelters didn’t give us much confidence either 😂 😂 😂

We then stopped at some futuro houses, which are little chalets shaped like UFO’s. They are dotted all over the world and sometimes hard to find. But they are super quirky! So we were glad to find a couple.

Our next stop was the old Purina Chows mill.

This was where they made all animal food. It’s disused now as you can see. Sadly we couldn’t get inside but it looks super cool and we love that you can still see some of the old logo.

We then stumbled across the Pepsi Cola factory.

Couldn’t get inside but the logos on the building were cool.

We grabbed some drinks and snacks before we got back on the road. Picked up a bag of Takis which are popular in America. Blue coloured spicy but sweet crisps — which then leave your mouth blue 😂

They were nice. A bit too spicy for Tina though.

We saw some cool other things along the way to our next stop.

Then we needed a toilet stop. So we stopped at this little gas station.

It was horrendous. The toilets were disgusting!

So we got out there — minging! 😂 😂 😂

Before our final stop we decided to stop for dinner. We found an Australian grill called Outback. Our server, Monique was amazing. She was obsessed with both our accents and she was just a joy to speak to.

We ordered a couple drinks. Beer for Helen, cider for Tina.

We also got this pumpernickel bread and it was amazing! Delicious and sweet, both of us agree it’s the best bread we’ve ever eaten.

As we waited on our food we had a great chat with Monique — she was telling us her daughter loves accents and watching British TV. Such a lovely lady!

Food arrived and it was amazing.

We got 2 dishes to share. Caramelised steak with Aussie fries and sweet potato. And fried chicken with caesar salad and veg. All of it was amazing, but especially the steak. Cooked perfectly and had an amazing caramel BBQ sauce.

We then had another great chat with Monique. After we got a photo with her she asked us to take a video for her daughter to say hello so she could hear our accents. Great service and experience all around.

Our final stop is back into the state of New Jersey. We are staying in Atlantic City which is a resort type area. Established in the 1800s as a health resort, it’s now full of hotels and casinos, a tiny very of Las Vegas. Not sure what we were expecting here really — just wanted a night to do something fun and we love a wee gamble.

Checked into our hotel — which is an absolute shite hole 😂 😂 😂

But the room is clean and comfy and thats all that matters.

Here is the view from our room.

Sadly it’s super misty so we can’t even see any of the hotels and casinos — which we were excited about as they are like mini Vegas hotels. Hopefully it won’t be as misty tomorrow and we can see them then.

So we had a quick drink before we headed out, we had to finish off the beers anyway.

And getting our gamble money ready!

This place is weird — imagine if Vegas and Blackpool had a child 😂 😂 😂

We headed to the first Casino — the hard rock.

But we didn’t stay as all the roulette and black jack tables were busy. So we headed down the boardwalk to the next casino.

Very misty so couldn’t see much of the views lol. But it was a lovely walk all the same. Had the boardwalk to ourselves which was amazing.

Into the next casino, called Resorts. It was much better, not as busy and much nicer people.

Helen jumped up on this chair and slid all the way back — hilarious, wish we caught it on video 😂 😂 😂

We saw Atlantic City’s first slot machine which was cool. This is from the 70’s

We started on the electronic machines.

And gambled $50. We lost $30 😂 Not the greatest start but not the worst. We’ve set aside $700 for tonight.

Then we went to the real tables.

We put in $50 each. Tina got off to a bad start and added another $100 but Helen was doing well on her first $50.

Our croupier was fun — loving that we were from “across the pond" as she said.

And excited to take a photo with us. She was telling her friends that she “was going back to the UK" so sweet 😍

Then our luck turned and we were up about $200!

After a few hours at that table we went to grab a quick snack.

There was an Italian place on site so we got a slice of buffalo pizza and a pepperoni stromboli — both really nice!

Then we strolled along the boardwalk to the next casino calles Ocean.

So peaceful! And just what you need at 1am — no hassle.

Into the last casino and we were doing rubbish! We lost about $400!

Then Tina jumped on Blackjack (but we play together) We won $100 then we went to another blackjack table and Tina gambled $125 on one hand and won! So we doubled our money.

Getting late we decided to call it a night. We lost about $60 the whole evening, so that wasn’t bad at all for a great fun night!

On the way back we took one more shot at a $10 bet on the big machine.

Helen has been lucky on these machines in the past. But no joy this time 😂 😂 😂

Back to our luxxxxury motel, look at the outside of this place.

What a dive 😂 😂 😂

Here is our route for today. We drove through Delaware instead of going across on the ferry as it was only 40 min drive extra, and it meant we got to see all in the cool roadside attractions too, plus get to see a good chunk of Delaware!

It’s our last night tomorrow 😞 And we are just a short drive away from Brooklyn — hopefully it’s not misty so we can go a boardwalk stroll and see some of the casinos — maybe even have a morning gamble, wish us luck 😂 🍀🤞💲🎰
