Brand Meltdown: Branding Without A Brand

We all know that branding is an essential part of any business. It defines your business, your clients, and ultimately who you are. So let’s get real how do we brand without a brand? What if you are someone who’s saying, “ I don’t know how to brand my business, or I don’t have anything to brand.” What you are experiencing is a “brand meltdown” and that’s ok. Matter of fact that’s great!

It is great for one major reason, you have a clean slate and get to create your brand story. You can brand whatever you like. De Beers Diamond branded a piece of rock. Apple branded some phones, tablets, and watches. Louis Vuitton branded handbags and luggage. You get where I’m going with it?

Just when you think you don’t have a brand, actually you have one already. We all do, YOU! Before you put your product and services out there in the world start with branding yourself. You will be the walking billboard representing your business. If you are a fitness coach then you need to make sure that your body is at optimal fitness levels.

You definitely want to practice what you teach. For example if you are a yoga instructor teaching others about loving themselves but on the other hand you’re always screaming and angry. That brand story doesn’t fit your product, that might be a time to rebrand.

The next step is to make sure the message you put into the world is congruent with what your company stands for. This is where you want to explore your core values. What do you believe in? What does your company believe in? Why does your business exist? After this exploratory moment you can craft a story that is compelling.
