Do what you want to do
Permission is for losers
In college, people always ask you what you want to do when you graduate. Unless you want to be a doctor, lawyer, or other another profession that requires several degrees, the answer should be “what I’m doing now”.
If you want to do it, do it.
Most of my peers seem to think they need somebody’s permission, or a piece of paper, to do what they want to do. You don’t.
If you think you want to become a sports writer, start a sports news site and cover sports. If you want to become a talent scout for new musicians, start scouting at nearby events and send your thoughts to relevant labels or post them online.
You don’t have to wait until graduation to start working. If you don’t want to start now, then you don’t actually want to do it- you just want money. And you’ll never be very fulfilled or successful doing something just for the money.
Put your ideas to the test. You may find that you don’t really enjoy sports writing. Or maybe you find that you do like it, and that your website got noticed by ESPN and landed you a dream job.
Chances are, this education will be more valuable than your formal one.
