Ireland may legalize abortion soon and if you don’t like it prepare to be bullied.
During a Dáil debate on the regulation of crises pregnancy agencies on the 17th of November 2016, Independent TD Mattie McGrath suggested the HSE (Irish Health Services) stop funding the abortion advocacy group “Irish Family Planning Association”. Responding to this suggestion, Ruth Coppinger (from the Socialist organisation Anti Austerity Alliance), without any argument, evidence or reason, accused the Independent TD of being a ‘sexist, backward man’ and claimed he had an ‘inordinate interest in women’s bodies’.

This of course was quite a serious and unwarranted charge aimed at Mattie McGrath, and ought to be backed up with evidence. Insulting a man for doing what he was elected to do is incredibly unprofessional, especially when his interests reflects thousands of other Irish tax payers, many of whom would reject their tax Euro’s going towards advocacy groups for abortion. Whether you agree or disagree with that stance, insults and slander shouldn’t be the way to go about conducting an argument.
Ruth later stated that she sticks by her comments regardless of the threat of legal action made by Mattie McGrath, who told the Irish Times he instructed his lawyers on the matter. Ruth still fails to deliver any real reasoning or evidence as to why she made these comments. It has also been reported that Coppinger has went as far as blocking members of McGrath’s family on Twitter when they confronted her.

Not surprisingly Coppinger is quite vocal within the “Repeal the 8th” movement (a group dedicated to repealing Ireland’s 8th Amendment that protects unborn children), and has even appeared in some of their campaign videos. You would think Coppingers slander and insults would lead to an apology or even condemnation from either her party or the Repeal movement to distance themselves from that kind of language but as it turns out, slander and insults are no stranger to the Repeal movement either.
A pro-Life event (the Rally for Life) was held this year on July 1st to show support for Ireland’s 8th Amendment, and the Repeal movement decided to hold a counter demonstration. Many protesters were spotted screeching at those attending the March for Life (many of whom were women and children), and some protesters even decided to flip them off. We can see this vulgar behavior pictured below where one woman even appears to be holding a coat hanger as she sticks her middle finger up at a camera.

These bullying tactics displayed by Ruth Coppinger and the Repeal crowd shouldn’t surprise anybody. The Far Left are no strangers to verbally (and physically) abusing political opponents to shut them down. Baseless accusations of racism and every other kind of bigotry are used to destroy the credibility of those who disagrees with the Far Left (Ruth Coppinger accusing Mattie McGrath of sexism), and with the referendum on abortion just around the corner people need to prepare for more slander and name calling. This is just the beginning.
