Sargon of Akkad’s Petition and the Libertarian Lens

I see it as simply as this: if actual, accredited universities were teaching Scientology, tarot-reading or alchemy as if these were things that had rigorously-tested and repeatable results for the claims they make, I’d similarly have concerns about those courses, and would happily sign a petition that suggested that the curriculum of a department that might teach such things be urgently reviewed.

I’ve no wish to ban any mention of those things from places of learning, nor would I want to suggest that no one should ever be allowed to pursue them on their own time if they wanted to, the issue is that a university, of all places, should have the highest standards for imparting information that is verifiably true.

There’s a (good) reason Wikipedia is not considered a reliable source of information by most colleges, so it’s somewhat strange to have actual courses currently being taught across the Western world that impart information as if it were indisputably true, based on studies and statistics that would struggle to pass even Wikipedia’s standards if they pertained to almost any other academic subject.
