I would agree that Antifa heightens the danger and shares some blame. But what I saw being there was not potential violence all being instigated by them. I witnessed a lot of the supremacists itching for violence themselves. I’d advise not to assume that they were just there to parade around. I can only speak to biased news coverage of previous events, but in Charlottesville the supremacists seemed the more violent party, and I was worried about them just as much or more as Antifa based on their behavior that day. Anybody could have got the slaughter started.
With the dilemma of the militiamen, I’d be for no citizens being allowed to take that role. I’m not a fan of open carry or even licensed, concealed carry. We can all speculate on what is more dangerous, allowing everybody to arm themselves or nobody, and it’s a tricky case to make on either side, but I was already generally in favor of more gun control, and Charlottesville put me more firmly in that direction. I’m not sure the specifics of what the smartest legislation would be in that regard ; it’s not an issue I think about as much as others .
