Day 29: Trial & Error

liner notes:

  • Professional: At the start of the day, the code I wrote for my assigned part clocked in around 165 lines. By the end of the day, I got it down to about 100 lines. Not only does it still functions the same, it actually does more! Pretty amazing how you can refine code to not only be smaller and more efficient but can accomplish more!
  • Personal: Ran into a little roadblock while working on my refactor project. For some reason, the speech input wouldn’t work on my mobile device. It worked before and was still working on my laptop! After a couple of hours of doing everything I could think of with the Web Speech API, I REALLY looked at the error. The error was telling me that there was something wrong with my Web Speech API error reporting. So, I had an error in my program that would report the error coming from the API. Once I fixed THAT error, I saw that the API was actually reporting an error saying that it wasn’t allowed to access the microphone. Turns out that my development environment creates an insecure server to test my code on other devices. Chrome doesn’t like that and will only let a site access the microphone if it’s served from a secure server. Basically no https, no access! So I just deployed my code (had to do it eventually anyway) and everything worked again. I was able to get a couple of other things done before knocking out.

Going to see if I can refine my code for work anymore and send to some other developers for feedback. Looking to have everything done by tomorrow.

As far as my personal project. I want to get the info/credits section done and linked with Google Sheets and Firebase so I can update the info when needed. I’ve done it a bunch of times before so hopefully that will go smoothly. I’m also working on putting together the tracks for this week’s OUR show (kNOwBETTERHIPHOP.com).

I think that’s it. I’m tired. Going to work on some code while listening to tracks before work.

Have a great day!

peace piece
