mfg private letter

a tribute among other things to an amazing mentor, friend and colleague, Perry Hamilton of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. he was the founder and publisher of The Condell Private Letter. A publication for the settlement services industry and the first real national outlet for my writing. he is missed. rest in peace Perry.

the sun is rising on a renewed effort across America to revive manufacturing (mfg) … i know, in college i too thought mfg was the most boring career possible. but then as life served itself up i found my self computerizing a manufacturing firm and next thing you know, i understand what “all the fuss” is about! we were making “booties” like they wear in a clean room and they sold for sixteen (16) cents a pair. yep — as in $0.16 per pair. we sold thousands of cases of those crazy things and made money hand over fist. but i digress.

i oppose increasing visas for foreign students and workers. in the short term. whatever the number per year, let’s freeze that for 12 months. why? given the tax laws in this country, it makes more (dollars and) sense for employers to forgo training the talent they need: simply import it.

what if the tax advantage favored training and creating the talent you needed? what would our unemployment look like? less for sure.

what about all that amazing talent we have laid-off or otherwise out-placed? exactly!

this is where the experts that helped build the economic engine that put America in the lead in the world will congregate! in other words, i am looking for contributors to share their knowledge. those with special insights into manufacturing, distribution, logistics, software, processes, etc.

how many of you are old enough to remember the Fram® oil filter TV commercials? “You can pay me now or you can pay me later.” The message was if you try to save pennies and don’t change your filter with every oil change in your car, at some point the engine could blow up and it would cost a lot more!

if you are one of our targeted industries and you want to pick the brains the men and women that helped make this country great, you can do so by reading mfg private letter. we are tracking them down and asking them to write for us… to speak at events we will create… or consult with clients we find for them. for a fee.

readers, the price of admission is $1000 for a year. there will be at least 12 issues of amazing insight. plus “extras” published during the month. Q&A and other features designed [by you and a panel of experts!] to put your organization back in the lead.
