New Wearable Sensor Detects Stress Hormone in Sweat

Wearables that use sweat to notice stress usually track temperature, heart rate, and perspiration levels as markers for stress. However, all of these markers are often created by non-stress factors.
It’s better to measure stress level by level of cortisol. Cortisol, a hormone, goes up once someone is below physical or emotional strain. It is often measured by testing blood, saliva, or hair, however, none of those choices gives fast results, therefore aren’t significantly helpful for detection of short-term stressors.
That’s why a wearable that may give instant, accurate, and current measurements of corticoid levels is so important for researchers.

Today, a team of researchers at Stanford says that action is procurable. The group, led by materials science and engineering prof Alberto Salleo and postdoctoral research fellow Onur Parlak, declared in Science Advances that they’ve developed a wearable patch that may verify what proportion corticoid somebody is manufacturing in seconds, mistreatment sweat drawn from the skin below the patch.

Parlak tested the paradigm on many runners and told that the corticoid levels detected by the wearable sensor matched those detected by an ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) test that takes many hours.
