Gareth Johnston recently joined the AtlasEdge Management Team as SVP, Growth & Expansion. We sat down with him to do the introductions…

1. You’ve spent the past 13 years in a highly successful role at Equinix. What made you decide to join AtlasEdge?

Atlas Edge is on the cusp of redefining the edge data centre offering in Europe. I am extremely excited to be part of the disruptive trend moving compute closer to the point of usage. The team at AE is very focused on delivering this best in class solution for its customers. I believe AE has formed an industry leading team and I feel proud to join such a driven, professional organization.

2. The data centre industry seems to be going through another exciting phase, with huge customer demand and expectations. How has this impacted Design and Construction?

The industry has changed more in the last 3 years than it has in the 10 years before that. The customer demand for high quality data centre space delivered quickly has never been higher and this has stretched the supply chain in every aspect. It’s also imperative to keep environmental sustainability at the forefront of our designs. Defining new ways to deliver a quality and reliable product has never been more important.

3. Biggest challenge and opportunity in the new role?

The biggest challenge also creates the biggest opportunity. Demand is at an all-time high so our challenge will be to create a repeatable, sustainable solution that can be deployed at scale across multiple markets simultaneously to satisfy such demand.

4. Outside of AtlasEdge, what might we find you doing?

Most weekends are spent practicing football with my son who keeps me on my toes. Since moving back to Europe from the US 3 years ago our family have been exploring all that London has to offer and we are enjoying traveling within Europe.
