The advent of over-the-top (OTT) platforms has completely revolutionized the way we consume entertainment. The convenience of accessing any show, at any time, from any place, has made us question whether the same could be applied to knowledge. Enter the world of artificial intelligence (AI) tools, designed to offer this on-demand access to information, insights, and even companionship.

In this article, I am going to introduce you to some of the AI tools that are reshaping our understanding of knowledge acquisition and management: Poe.com, Maxai.me, and Perplexity.

1. Poe.com: On-demand Knowledge

What if we could treat knowledge like an OTT service, subscribing to various knowledge channels and interacting with chatbots specializing in specific areas? This is the promise Poe.com is striving to fulfill.

Poe allows users to interact with various chatbots, the majority of which are currently based on GPT and Claude models. Imagine subscribing to a cultural knowledge chatbot for a modest $5.90/month, or a medical knowledge chatbot for $9.90/month. Although Poe has yet to fully develop this service, it holds considerable potential. Additionally, the platform empowers users to create their own chatbots or leverage chatbots crafted by other users.

2. Maxai.me: Convenience is Key

Maxai.me, formerly known as UseChatgpt.ai, brings a different set of benefits. Navigating to the OpenAI website to use ChatGPT can be an inconvenience, especially if you’re working with a single monitor. Maxai eliminates this hassle, allowing you to summon ChatGPT on the same page using a shortcut key. It isn’t just limited to ChatGPT either; users can also engage with Google Bard, Claude, and Bing Chat.

3. Perplexity: Pushing the Boundaries

Perplexity AI, although not yet widely adopted among Koreans, is offering something more than the typical Google and ChatGPT combo found in many Chrome extensions. In many aspects, such as search results, Perplexity outperforms its peers like Bing Chat and even the temporarily defunct ChatGPT with Bing.

Despite incorporating OpenAI’s GPT-API, Perplexity brings to the table more innovative updates at a faster pace than OpenAI itself. For instance, OpenAI’s recently updated custom instructions feature was already introduced as Perplexity’s AI Profile a month earlier. Also, Perplexity’s new image search feature is projected to be a future addition to ChatGPT.

Perplexity embodies a company that leverages a different approach and strategy. From a user perspective, this translates to no need to switch to Microsoft Edge to use Bing Chat for information searches, which is a welcome convenience.

While there are many other AI services available, these three showcase the promise and potential of AI to deliver knowledge and convenience at our fingertips. Stay tuned for a further exploration of the AI landscape in my next article.
