Hi, Contents Protocol team here 👋🏼

Our vision is to bring new energy to the premium content industry with the blockchain technology.

You may not be familiar with the word blockchain, protocol, or even content. This probably is the case for most of you who are reading this article and that is precisely why we are writing this article.

We are very passionate about our vision, which is why we want to introduce our project, Contents Protocol.

Premium Content

Premium content refers to the content that people are willing to buy and consume. It refers to a movie, TV series, music, comics or e-book that is deeply absorbed in our daily lives.

It won’t be an exaggeration to say some movies or shows have a bit of influence over us. They can lead us to reevaluate the meaning of life, or love. We think this is why people love content.

And this is why we have come up with this project to meet better content.

Problems in the Premium Content Industry

What are the problems in this beloved industry?

Just like any industry, there are providers and consumers in the content industry with a platform service that connects them. However, the power of the platform services in the market has gotten stronger because they know more about the consumers and use those data to create their own content more tasteful.

In the traditional TV industry, content providers have had no idea who stopped watching at which episode. They, of course, hope that viewers fully watch their shows from the beginning to the end. If a viewer stops watching at episode 7, they want to figure out the reason and refer back when creating their next show. It has become very critical for content providers to know their audience to create better content.

However, current platform services do not share those data with the content providers. Rather, they are using them exclusively for their own benefit.

Contribution Without Compensation

Consumers who use the platform services provide their personal information, viewing data, ratings, reviews and many more without realizing how valuable those data are. They also constantly recommend specific content or specific platforms to others. While all these activities contribute directly to the success of the platform services, they have never been compensated.

We’ve been struggling for a long time to find the answer that solves this problem.

Platform services will be able to share user data with content providers in a way that does not go against their business model. Content providers will be able to use these data to create better content while consumers will be compensated for their contribution to the success of content and the platform service.

Contents Protocol

Providers, consumers, and platform services interact with each other and build the ecosystem of this industry. Content providers supply content to the platform services, platform services offer a pleasant viewing experience for consumers, and consumers buy content and share their experiences with others.

This circulation in the ecosystem generates a valuable data set. For example, what kinds of movies consumers like, which director’s work they watch from the beginning to the end, and which cast in which director’s work they go crazy about. However, these data can vary depending on multiple factors as such there are popular titles in Korea that are failed in other countries.

If the platform services that own these data were to provide the transparency to the content providers, this problem could be easily resolved.

This is a bit more complicated in reality since platform services already are in competitive relationships with the content providers. Can they really trust each other and share such data in their positions?

The Blockchain

When blockchain technology has emerged, we thought that we would be able to find the answer as its foundation aims to solve the trust issue.

On blockchain, only the data agreed by network participants are recorded. Once they are recorded, they cannot be forged or altered by anyone. We believe that if we could record and transmit the data through blockchain technology and secure the trust between content providers and consumers, we would be able to implement this new ecosystem in the industry through this new protocol called Contents Protocol.

So who are we?

WATCHA Inc.

WATCHA Inc. plays a key role in implementing this project. For the past 7 years, we’ve proved our competence in the content industry through the services called WATCHA and WATCHA Play. Over 4 million users have experienced WATCHA’s products; WATCHA has recorded more than twice of the annual sales growth since the launch of the mobile applications in 2013.

We are preparing a new take-off with the blockchain technology.

Contents Protocol is created for the premium content industry. Resources that need to be used in content creation are wasted because of the competition between content providers and platforms. It is our mission to solve these chronic problems and eventually give back to the valuable contributors what they deserve.

And we hope that you will join us in the new journey.
