When I retired from the military, it was suggested to me that I give some advise to the junior people attending my retirement ceremony. One piece of advise I gave was, “Never, never, never be the senior person with a secret”.

I view the op-ed writer as someone who is trying to ensure that when the curtains go down on this administration, he or she will be able to claim that they did just that.

Regardless of the motivation of the individual in question, they have failed to work through this ethical dilemma in any way that I deem satisfactory. The author of the op-ed stated, “But the real difference will be made by everyday citizens rising above politics, reaching across the aisle and resolving to shed the labels in favor of a single one: Americans.”

If the author believed this statement to be true, they would have to come to the conclusion that being an active part of a shadow administration is arguably one of the most un-American acts possible. Regardless of your opinion of the personal qualities of the individual who holds the office of President if the United States, usurping the will of the voters by conduct which contradicts the very oath they swore, to uphold the Constitution of the United States of America (assuming they are as high level as claimed by the New York Times), is deplorable and cowardly.

I am no Trump fan. While I should feel better that there are, “…adults in the room…”, protecting the American people from the insane impulses of an unqualified leader, I don’t.

Real adults own thier actions and accept responsibility for them. They don’t hide in the shadows.
