No consumer appreciates receiving a mangled box kept together by what seems to be dental floss. Worse, substandard packing reflects poorly on your brand and business. Each and Every Tape Bites
Here is a brief lesson that should “stick” in your mind. All bites from the tape. This occurs when the tape is put on corrugated because the adhesive “flows” into the corrugated fibres over time. This results in the “bite” or “stickiness” of the tape. Size Does Matter

Not All Tape Is Created Equal
Pressure-sensitive adhesive tape is a popular, adaptable option for adhering two surfaces together without the need for water or heat. The adhesive side is composed of an acrylic, silicone, or rubber material that has been heat-treated and adhered to a backing material such as paper or plastic. Typical varieties include the following:
Packing tape — This extensively used tape is normally transparent and is backed with a high-tensile material such as polypropylene. It is made with strong acrylic glue. Acrylic is an excellent general purpose glue since it is resistant to a wide range of temperatures, keeps well, is UV resistant, and does not deteriorate in moist situations.
Filament tape — Excellent for bundling and corrugated fiberboard packaging. A rubber adhesive is strengthened with polypropylene and fibreglass filaments to give a strong, flexible tensile strength.
Masking tape — Often used in painting, this temporary hold is composed of paper-backed acrylic that is easily removed.
Hot melt tape — Available in clear and a rainbow of hues, the synthetic rubber or natural rubber adhesive on this tape makes it an excellent choice for shipping due to its resistance to hard handling. While Hot Melt glue has a lesser initial “bite,” it eventually forms a stronger bond. Additionally, Hot Melt adhesives retain their flexibility at extremely low temperatures, making them perfect for applications in freezers or in cold climes. Finally, corrugated boxes are frequently coated with a fine layer of dust. Another instance in which Hot Melt adhesive tape is preferable.
Another method for sealing corrugated surfaces is water-activated or gummed tape. This tape is very robust due to the rigidity of the kraft paper backing, the water-activated adhesive, and reinforcing filaments. This results in a strong, practically instantaneous relationship. As with pressure-sensitive tape, gum tape can be customised with a logo.
