Even before the final whistle was blown, a group of people huddled together to tackle two of the most monsterous challenges of our time — food waste and hunger — at the largest sporting event of the year.

Determined to make the Super Bowl 50 net positive for our Bay Area community, Copia teamed up with great volunteers from BlackRock® @Apple @Google to #KickHunger and #TackleFoodWaste during Super Bowl 50 events and parties.

Copia had an ambitious goal: recover enough food to feed 10,000 people in need.

Let us step back by saying, recovering food from Super Bowl 50 events is no small feat. It means MONTHS of planning, mapping, logistics, rehearsal, walk throughs, coordination, thousands of calls, and lots (and we mean LOTS) of sleepless nights. And now that Super Bowl 50 signs and streamers have been swept away, we are excited to announce that we not only reached our goal of feeding 10,000 people, we wildly surpassed it.

Copia celebrated Super Bowl 50 weekend by recovering over 28,000 pounds of gourmet food from events and venues throughout the Bay Area. We delivered this food to 14 different non-profits to provide over 23,000 meals to people in need in the Bay Area!

#FoodHeroes celebrating Super Bowl 50 by recovering over 28,000 pounds of food!

It was truly an all hands on deck effort as we all worked into the wee hours of the night packaging, loading, and distributing thousands of pounds of gourmet food that would have otherwise been wasted. This food was prepared by some of the best chefs in the country, using the highest quality and freshest ingredients available, and we were able to deliver it to the communities most in need.

A huge heartfelt thank you to the entire Copia team and the greatest of our #FoodHero friends; the event sponsors and organizers like PepsiCo, Taste of the NFL, Grand Hyatt, Big Game Big Give, who partnered with us to donate their excess food; our non-profit partners like Glide and Delancey Street who were able to accommodate a massive influx of food (some of it even last minute); our incredible financial supporters and everyone (literally everyone) who is serving their part in our mission to create a world with #ZeroFoodWaste and #ZeroHunger. We couldn’t have done this without you.

With Copia, companies and events can easily request pickups of their excess food and have it directly delivered to feed communities in need. Our online and mobile platforms make the process of food donation and distribution seamless and simple. Visit GoCopia.com to become a food donor or join our network of non-profit organizations.
