A Human Centered Approach to Team Psychological Safety

We all come from different backgrounds, with unique journeys to get to where we are today. This gives us great strength when bonded together! Without collaboration and teams of people working together, we would have so little. Our labor, and our collective efforts are a beautiful thing and should be nurtured with a kindness and empathy. And this is something that all of us will be in a position to do at some point.

In order to fulfill that role as a “nurturing leader” it’s critical to understand that the key ingredient of this strong foundation is the integrity of it. A brittle foundation sown by broken trust and retaliation, will eventually lead to something falling apart. This is why psychological safety, candor, and alignment towards a vision are so important.

I want to make sure these are things that everyone feels comfortable with! So I tried to share my thoughts on each below, with sources that I think are traditionally valued by members of leadership teams, but there’s also a ton of great information out there written by people like you and me!

Alignment toward a vision is achieved when the people doing the work are aligned on what needs to be built, the pathway to get there, and the respect for each person’s capacity and capability to do the work.
