Coral Grant: How to Make a Career Transition

As a life coach, Coral Grant has helped many people in a variety of different industries make career transitions. Coral Grant loves the job, and says, “It has not only helped me to create the life of my dreams, but also to help others do the same!” Often, in order to create the life of your dreams, you need to switch from a career you aren’t happy with to one that you find more fulfilling. This can be very challenging, and you might not know where to start. Here are some tips to help you make a career transition.

- Think about what you love to do during your free time, and see if you can use that to influence your next step. While you likely won’t be able to play video games or watch TV for a living, you may be able to transition to, say, working in marketing for a media company instead of a company in another industry if that’s what you already do. It’s also important to be open to careers you may have never even thought of before — often those end up being the best fit.

- Once you have decided what type of career you want to pursue, start to educate yourself in that field. This may mean getting a new degree in some cases, but in others, you may just need to take classes online or get a new certification. However, it is important to take your time with this and really delve into this next venture so you can succeed.

- Connect with people who already work in the industry that you are transitioning into. If you have friends or contacts who can help you get started, you will be much more likely to succeed. They can also give you advice that will help you find good starting points and maybe even land a first job. If you don’t know anyone off the top of your head who works in your desired field, ask friends or family if they do.

- Finally, you’ll be ready to start the job search! Put together a new resume and other application materials that focus on your new, desired career and abilities. Send out packages and be open and flexible — you never know which job could end up being the perfect fit! Although this process can be a bit stressful, you’ll be much more satisfied once you end up with your perfect job.
