That's funny, I recently visited the Bartholdi museum in Colmar, and of course there was a lot of stuff about the Statue of Liberty. It looks like the lighthouse Bartholdi designed for the Suez canal (he never built it actually), but he always denied it.

And the statue was actually assembled in Paris once before it was sent in pieces to New York, to make sure it was properly standing.
