Based on my income, credit rating, etc., how can I estimate how much I’ll qualify for? What if there’s two people? I don’t want to be hounded by loan salespeople, it would just be nice to know what I’ll qualify for so we know what we should plan to look for.

Mine and my wife’s income combined is about $49,000 a year. We are hoping to buy a house soon and finally move out of our tiny apartment.. We have been looking online, and to get a house that is even remotely close to being decent where we live, we have to pay about $175,000 or more.. We have found some that we think are alright that are priced at about $175,000 — $180,000. The monthly payments that are projected on the listings are about $100 to $150 less than what we already pay per month for rent at our current apartment which is only $818/month. There would be no issues with us being able to pay the bills whatsoever, but could we even be approved for that much money? We will be using a VA home loan. Our credit is excellent, I never miss any payments or anything. I do have a $26,000 student loan I am paying back, and a car loan that still has about $13,000 to be paid off.. Thanks for the response. I filed a chapter 7 and it was over a year ago. My lawyer told me in Sept that the trustee finally filed her final report. I’m still waiting for my case to close. He said it will not close until the creditors cash the checks she is distributing from my income tax refund, which will not even come close to paying them 100%. He said the checks will be void after 90 days. I am just wondering what happens if the 90 days passes and they haven’t cashed the checks … since it is getting close and my case is STILL open.””
