Kobe Bryant’s Secret to Success

I recently saw a video where Kobe Bryant was being interviewed on Bloomberg TV and he described how he would cold email people like Oprah and Ariana Huffington. He’d just ask them for advice and talk about business. I’m thinking to myself. He’s Kobe Bryant. A celebrity. Who’s not going to respond to that guy.

I love social and digital media because it has created a two way street for everyone. Anyone can find amazing people the same way Kobe did. Do you ever go to events or read an article online and get totally inspired. Well that’s all that happened to Kobe Bryant. He saw someone he admired or he thought he could benefit from and reached out them.

I’ve recently had similar successes as Kobe using Twitter, email, LinkedIn and other digital mediums. I went to an event about the evolving digital media landscape. One of the presenters caught my attention so I reached out to him on LinkedIn with a note on why I want to connect. He replied right back.

I’m also using twitter to connect with some amazing leaders of industry. You’ll be amazed at how glad they are you reached out. I do this all the time and get really positive responses.

Now that everything’s connected online it’s easier than ever to find people who have similar passions and interests. Be brave and reach out to people you don’t know. Start a conversation. You may discover you have more in common with them than people you’ve know for years.
