The Inspirational Journey of Junaid Ahmad: From 60% in Class 10 to AIR 3 in UPSC
Junaid Ahmad IAS Biography
Hailing from the small town of Nagina in Bijnor district, Junaid Ahmad’s story is a testament to the power of perseverance and determination. Despite an average academic background, with only around 60% marks in Class 10 and 12, Junaid took the challenge of cracking the prestigious UPSC Civil Services Examination head-on.
An alumnus of Aligarh Muslim University, Junaid pursued an Electronics Engineering degree from Sharda University in Noida. It was during his final year of graduation that he decided to embark on the journey of becoming an IAS officer.
The UPSC Preparation Strategy
Junaid’s path to success was not an easy one. He gave his first attempt at the UPSC exam in 2014, after moving to Mumbai for focused preparation. However, his initial attempt was unsuccessful, leading him to return to Delhi and enroll in the residential coaching program at Jamia Millia Islamia.
For those aspiring to crack the UPSC Prelims, Junaid recommends sticking to NCERT books from Class 9 onward. This solid foundation, he believes, can pave the way for success in the preliminary stages of the examination.
However, it was the Mains examination that posed the greatest challenge for Junaid initially. To overcome this hurdle, he adopted a unique strategy — meticulously going through newspapers and creating bullet points to understand critical issues and their proposed solutions. This technique enabled him to grasp complex topics effectively and improve his performance in the Mains examination.
Perseverance Pays Off: From AIR 352 to AIR 3
Junaid’s unwavering determination and revised preparation strategy paid off handsomely. In his fourth attempt, he secured an impressive All India Rank (AIR) of 352 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination. However, he was not satisfied and decided to give it another shot.
In his subsequent attempt, Junaid’s hard work and dedication culminated in a remarkable achievement — he secured the coveted All India Rank 3, cementing his place as one of the top performers in the country.
Junaid’s journey from an average academic background to becoming an IAS topper is a source of inspiration for countless civil service aspirants. His story serves as a reminder that with the right mindset, dedication, and strategic preparation, even the loftiest of dreams can be realized.
