Just Do You People!
By Corey Bu-Shea
Ayesha Curry, wife of NBA superstar, Seth Curry. (No feminists, her identity is not linked to him, I just thought that I would give every a frame of reference), setoff a Twitter firestorm with just two short tweets. In her tweets, she simply stated that she was glad that she did not follow current fashion trends and maintained her class. Also, she was glad that only her husband got to see her goodies. Well, her tweets weren’t received so well. Feminists felt that she was slut shaming women. Bible thumpers praised her for leading the cause of having women be chaste and virtuous (insert eyeroll here) and ashy men who stay telling women what to do, even though their mothers were the biggest hoes, which is how they came to be in the first place, all weighed in.
Well, I have message for all of you, JUST DO YOU! I placed that in caps for the “slow” people. I remember how self-righteous and arrogant I was in my 20’s. I had a few years of college under my belt, and had been on my own for a few years, and I thought that I knew everything. I mean everything! I stayed in place of judgement and scorn for others who were different from me because in my arrogance I knew best. But then life happens. You fall in love, get your heart broken, you lose a job, lose some family members, lose some friends; Life literally knocks you to your knees. And through it all, you learn that life is fleeting, time is short, and you have to grab happiness wherever you can.
Perhaps, Ayesha Curry’s modesty works for her. Perhaps, your sexual liberation in dress and choices, work for you. As long as you are not hurting yourself or anyone, do you! This is not a racial or gender specific school of thought. It is for every human being. So ladies the next time some ashy man or fellow woman tries to make you feel small or hoeish for wearing or making choices about your life and body, tell them to fuck off. For men who have your masculinity and/or manhood questioned by other men with penis envy and women who want to emasculate you, tell them to fuck off.
The sermon for today is DO YOU! Now pass my tithes and offerings! Ha!
