Beginning The College Life

I have just recently become a student at the University Of Northern Iowa. I have looked forward to becoming a college student for the past couple of years and couldn’t wait to jump right in. On the day I loaded up the car and began the journey to my new home for the next four years there was all kinds of mixed emotions flowing through me. I couldn’t wait to be on my own and begin the rest of my life.

The one thing that made me nervous was leaving all the friends I had for so long and making new ones. Being a shy person that I am, created this whole problem for me. However when on my first day I realized that everyone was in the same boat, we were all looking for new friends and people to hangout with. I wasn’t prepared at all for how many people were around, coming from a small town and school where you knew everybody was completely different from college. It was so overwhelming and made me feel really out of place. I wish I would have prepared myself more in highschool by becoming more social and outgoing. It would have been so helpful if I told myself before coming to college that I need to step out of my comfort zone and go meet new people when given the opportunity.

I am looking forward to being able to cheer on them Panthers in the dome as we show the other team who is boss! All the excitemnet of the screaming crowd, and coming together to cheer on our school is what I love to do. As I begin this new and fantastic experience at college I look forward to the challenges it creates and all the memories that will be made.
