The irony of being a perfectionist, I think, is that trying too hard produces a contrary outcome. It’s like trying to hit a golf ball farther by swinging the club harder. Almost every time I try to crush the ball, I end up dropping my shoulder, moving my head, and shanking a beaver pelt-sized divot twice the distance of the ball.
