So much to think about indeed! The conversation I have been engaged in quite a bit recently with my colleagues is that in one hand we are attempting to redefine expectations for the organization as a whole (i.e. growth mindset, meetings that produce action…) and with the other hand we are attempting to define expectations for individuals (i.e. positional growth plans, soft skill diagnosis). Whether in a school setting or in a business setting, teaching children or adults, finding ways for the “student’ to take stock in defining those expectations can be difficult due to the amount of self awareness and openness to change that an individual must have. We don’t want to find ourselves in curriculum mode of saying, “we chose this topic for everyone to learn, so that’s how its gonna be, check the box when the course is over.

In trying to be a more ‘innovative’ environment. Should our focus simply be on allowing the ‘student’ to own the learning in the moment, or should we be taking the time to ask “what is the end goal” for each individual before hand?
