Quotation Marks Were Not Always in the Bible

Did you know that the original Hebrew and Greek scriptures did not have quotation or “speech” marks? Well, you should, because this may make a big difference to how you approach some biblical passages.

In reading some parallel passages, such as the accounts of the last supper in two different gospels, you may notice that the “direct quotes” of Jesus are different. Does this mean that one or both authors mis-heard and mis-recorded what Jesus said?

Some bible versions even treat the direct quotes of God and Jesus with the seriousness of red letters. So it matters whether God actually said those things word-for-word of they are just the author’s rendition to fit his present purposes.

I came across the link below that sheds helpful light on the matter. Follow it if you are interested in learning more about this subject.
