Relief India Trust Role in Eradicating Child Labor

The Monstrous Child Labor Challenge for the NGOs

Alleviating child labor has always been one of the top most priorities of many NGOs. No matter how big or small an NGO is, it always tries to do something meaningful which can eradicate child labor. Child labor is a very common issue in most of the developing countries, particularly South Asia and Middle East. A lot of under privileged parents in these regions are forced to send their children out to work on streets, mines and factories in order to earn a livelihood for them. Remember, that kids are the future of every nation. If they are not given their fundamental rights of studies and other necessities, then the future of such nation would be affected big time. The Relief India Trust is striving hard in their region to eradicate child labor from its roots. It is not an easy process, as child labor has spread out far and wide in the country. But there are some strategies which the NGOs like Relief India Trust can adopt to at least control this issue to some level.

Tips for Controlling or Eradicating Child Labor:

Child Labor is a problem where the affected person or the affected family is not fully aware of the hazards attached to it. They need to be aware by NGOs that how child labor can destroy the future of the kids. It is a big problem in both rural and urban areas. Following are some tips and suggestions which Relief India Trust found quite useful in eradicating child labor from the region

· Awareness campaigns on Child’s rights – The NGO should run awareness campaigns in which they should encourage the under privileged parents to participate. For this matter, the NGOs need to go door to door and tell such parents that how education can change their lives. Further, they should also be told about the long lasting effects of child labor.

· Scholarship Programs – The NGOs can work to arrange scholarships in school for such children who spend all day working in the streets and factories. Further, there also can be scholarship programs where the children could be paid every day for coming to school. This can be a great encouragement for children who work all day to make a small amount of money for their food.

· Educational Workshops – The Relief India Trust conducts several workshops for children where they are trained on computers, music, painting and remedial education. It is just to encourage children so that they can develop interest towards education.

· Sports Facilities – Beside studies, children should also be encouraged for sports which can ensure their healthy growth of both physique and mind. Nothing can encourage children more than sports to participate in educational activities.

· Library – Building a library for underprivileged children can be a great idea to inculcate in them the habit of studying. The library should have all sorts of books such as comics, adventure, travel and other informative books.
